Limoges
35 minutes. The capital of the Limousin, offering good shopping, restaurants,
theatre, cinema and museums. As a centre of the porcelain industry there are
lots of bargains to be had.
Poitiers
1 1/4 hours. A historic city offering loads of interesting architecture,
wonderful shops and the home of Futuroscope.
Central Massif
2 1/2 hours. The once-volcanic mountain-range has numerous castles, gorges and
forests to explore.
La Rochelle
2 1/2 hours. The sophisticated yachting centre is close to the Ile de Ré with
its miles of sand dunes and pine forests.
Paris
2 1/2 hours by train and possible to do this for a day trip if you don’t mind a
6 am start.
Around the local area
Most villages and small towns in the area have weekly markets. The area has
many interesting churches which host art exhibitions and concerts thorughout
July and August. Being on the pilgrim route of St. Jacques de Compostella and
the crusade route of Richard the Lionheart, the area is steeped in history.
